Speech Therapy
What is speech therapy?
Speech therapy is the treatment of language and communication disorders with the ultimate goal of developing functional communication skills and improving self-confidence.
Speech-language pathologists (SLP’s) are able to work with verbal as well as pre-verbal children.
How do I know if my child would benefit from speech therapy?
If your child’s speech is delayed, they are not meeting communication milestones, they have not passed communication screenings, or your pediatrician or other professionals have recommended speech therapy, an evaluation is recommended to determine if speech therapy is appropriate for your child.
Our speech therapists are experienced in working with children with receptive, expressive, and cognitive communication difficulties as well as autism and children who would benefit from practicing pragmatic language skills.
Children do NOT require a diagnosis of autism in order to attend speech therapy services.
Who runs my child's speech therapy sessions?
Our speech therapy sessions are run by our amazing speech therapists!
Both SLP’s actively collaborate with our in-house occupational therapists as well as our ABA practitioners to create truly comprehensive treatment plans.
What does a speech therapy session look like?
Each speech therapy session is individually developed for each child so no two sessions will look alike!
Our SLP’s use age-appropriate toys, games, and activities to facilitate language development. Our speech therapists model and encourage language (verbalization as well as sign and/or AAC devices) using fun to encourage engagement and social interactions.
How long will my child need speech therapy?
Every child is different, has different challenges and progresses at a different rate, therefore, the length of time your child will need services is dependent on their individual progress and needs.
What is the schedule for speech therapy?
The length and frequency of therapy is indivualized for each child. Sessions are typically 30 minutes in length and held 1-2x/week, depending on clinical recommendations. Parents/caregivers typically wait in our waiting room during the session and meet with the SLP at the end of the session to discuss progress, parent feedback, suggestions to work on strategies at home, and SLP recommendations.
Our SLP’s begin with an a thorough evaluation in order to assess your child’s current skillset and deficits and to develop an individualized treatment plan prior to starting services.
If your child attends ABA or OT services with Believe in Me speech therapy sessions can be coordinated with your child’s current schedule.
*Your child does NOT need to attend ABA therapy in order to receive speech services.
